Tørklæder 2008

Womens headscarves, three different types

Tørklæder / Headscarves. 2008.
Manifest. Aarhus Kunstbygning, Aarhus, Denmark

A photographic project that consists of three headscarves made in square headscarf formats, 66×66 cm. The material is satin with impressed photographic portraits of three women seen from behind. The headscarf is a head clothing, carried by women. It can protect the hair against water, light and wind. It can hide the coiffure. It can be used as decorative clothing.
By wearing the headscarves ‘Birgit’, ‘Lone’ and ‘Malene’ you cover your hair but simultaneously a woman’s coiffure becomes visible. By wearing one of the three headscarves the woman makes a choice: ‘Which coiffure do I choose today?’
